RO3 - ICT infrastructure for the HABITAT scenario
Responsible partner for the realization objective: CIRI-ICT


This realization objective is responsible for the definition the architectural model and HABITAT communication and support infrastructure. It will be involved into the development of the prototypes of the gateway and of the application software and the purposes will be:

1. Individuating a planning methodology for the HABITAT scenarios, using the available technology in an effective way (costs, consumes and accessibility) and remaining open to future evolution, according to the industrial partner of the project.

2. Individuating a telematic infrastructure suitable to the management of the IoT, open to future scenarios. Individuating a data model which can allow to the IoT producers, consumers and aggregators (sensors, actuators, rules engines, display, etc.) to interoperate.

3. Proposing an application development methodology, applied to the use cases and coordinated with the other realization objectives in development of prototypes.

Expected activities

This realization objective is responsible for HABITAT middleware and the gateway connectivity; furthermore is responsible of the demo application software. Because of this, these activities are expected:

1.  Definition of HABITAT infrastructure and the IoT gateway. The activity will occur in collaboration with wiMAN s.r.l, with competences and industrial interests about preconfigured setups and eased access nets.

2. Analysis and definition of the communication infrastructure. It will be considered both consolidated technologies (Bluetooth, WiFi, ZigBee) and emergent technologies (Sub 1 GHz, like Spirit, because of his very low consumes on medium-low ranges). It will be considered also emergent IoT protocols like DASH-7 or 6LowPAN. The activity will occur in collaboration with the realization objective 2 and with the competences the company U-watch, which has competences and industrial interests in wearable technologies.

3. Definition and development of prototypes of the messages semantic broker, which will allow the distribution of the data coming from the sensors granting scalability, extendibility and flexibility. It will be considered particularly Publish-Subscribe mechanisms.

4. Definition and development of a decision support system, based on AI techniques like rules engines, with support to uncertain knowledge. Because of this, it is expected the using of Drools Chance platform, already applied to other applications with TRL4 and TRL5 results. 

5. Support and integration activities with the experimentation expected in the realization objective 4 and with the spreading in the realization objective 5.

Expected results

1. Definition of planning and realization criteria of HABITAT scenarios.

2. Realization of the ICT infrastructure for the proposed use cases.

3. Development of the middleware platform for the management of the HABITAT services.
